This is where the steam locamotive depot was based. It closed in 1953 and was located within the triangle of lines between the Ardrossan and Largs lines.

The shed was opened 1895 and was part of a larger complex which consisted of offices, stores & workshops. At its peak it was the base for over 50 Steam Locomotives and employed over 300 people.

The rise in popularity of diesel engines over steam led to the closure of the sheds. Although it shut its doors in 1965 it continued to be used as a signing-on point until 1967. The buildings were eventually demolished in 1975.

When the electrification came in the late 1980s part of the land was used as a halt.
