The first shed was built in 1840 and consisted of a 2 track dead end shed with a turntable. It closed in 1869 to allow for station enlargement and a new facility was built at Ardrosan Town Station.

After the closure of the Ardrossan Shed a new timber built 3 track straight through shed was constructed to the east of the Ardrossan Railway Station. It closed in 1895 and was relocated to the triangle between Parkhouse Junction, Castlehill Junction and Holm Junction.
