Ardrossan Harbour No1 signal box was a Glasgow and South Western Railway Type 3 design which opened in 1892. A replacement 40 lever McKenzie and Holland frame was installed in 1932 and on 29th January 1939 the box was renamed Ardrossan Harbour when Ardrossan Harbour No2 signal box closed. It was reduced to a non block post supervising the adjacent level crossing only on 18th May 1986 when the line from Holm Junction signal box was singled and worked by one train regulations. It was closed on 29th January 1989, exactly half a century after being renamed, when the adjacent level crossing was converted to an automatic open crossing locally monitored
