Ardrossan Locomotive Shed
Built: 27 Jul 1840 Closed: Feb 1965 Company: Glasgow Paisley Kilmarnock & Ayr Railway Location: Ayrshire Located on the west side of Ardrossan Town station. Construction: It was a 2 track straight dead-ended shed. Facilities: Included a turntable.
In 1869 The shed was closed to allow for station enlargement.
A new timber built 3 track straight through shed was constructed and located[B] east of the new station.
In 1895 The shed was closed and demolished following the opening of a new shed located[C] further east of the station in the triangle of lines at Parkhouse Junction.
It was a brick built 4 track straight through shed with a twin gable style slate roof. Facilities included a turntable, a coal stage and a water tank.
After Feb 1965 It was used as a diesel stabling point. In Sep 1969 The diesel stabling point was closed and it was used to store redundant diesels awaiting disposal.
Demolition: 1975
This steam depot is closed. It was within the triangle of lines between Castlehill, Holm and Parkhouse Junction and was approached from Parkhouse and Holm junctions.
