Eleanora Hunter (b. 1764) was a chief of Clan Hunter. Born in 1764, she inherited the position of the 24th Chief in 1796 after her father Robert Hunter died at the age of 86. She was more commonly known as Helen rather than Eleanora.

In March 1796 at Hunterston she married her cousin Robert Caldwell. In the same year, Robert returned from Maine where he had been a mariner, and devoted the rest of his life to managing the family estate and built Hunterston House in 1799. (This was completed in 1810). They had eight children:

  • Robert Hunter (b. 29 Aug 1799) (d. 14 Mar 1880)
  • Margaret Caldwell (b. 1800) (d.1884)
  • Eleanora Hunter Caldwell (b. Nov 1800) (d. 1833)
  • Marion Crawfurd Caldwell (b. 5 Dec 1801) (d. ?)
  • Eleanora Caldwell (b. 1804) (d. 1823)
  • Patrick Caldwell (b. 15 Jun 1804) (d. 1826)
  • Janet Caldwell (b. 27 Jun 1807)
  • Norman Caldwell (b. 27 Feb 1809) (d.1836)

Her husband Robert died on 22 August 1826.

Having greatly improved the estate, Eleanora died on 24 December 1851.

In 1852 her son Robert Caldwell Hunter took over as laird and became the 25th Chief of Clan Hunter.
