This article is about a Marsh within Hunterston Estate

The Moory Nooke is the original ancient marsh at Hunterston from back in 12th Century and possibly earlier than that and located east of the castle. All the land surrounding the castle was marsh land and it was not until the 17th century that the land was all drained making it all perfect for farming.

In the 1980s the land was starting to flood again due to the drainage pipes being blocked by sediment and ruptures so most of them were dug up and replaced by plastic drain pipes and although that worked for many years the area has succumbed to being flooded again with none of the water being able to drain away.

Since the mid 1990s the land has been reverting back to the the way nature intended and although not as wet as the Hunterston Marsh it is slowly naturally becoming the same.
