North Ayrshire's Oilrig Road road is 1.3 miles long and goes from Hunterston Roundabout and terminates at the Hole in the Ground at the middle of the construction yard.
The road was constructed in 1974 for the new Oilrig Construction Yard and was pupose built for this. The road crossed over the Power Station Road by means of a bailey bridge and continued into the centre of the site and still does to this day.
In 1999 the road was slighly realigned with the removal of the bailey bridge and the road being used as the main access to the Power Stations. The road starts off as the Oilrig Road for 1.1 miles then joins the Power Station Road but the rest of the Oilrig Road exisits and is accessed via the Power Station Road.
Midway along it crosses over the start of Largs Avenue and U35 which also accesses Hunterston Castle and Mansion House Yes, this sounds confusing but online map shows it best.
