Patrick alienated a considerable portion of the Estate. It is thought to have been caused by gambling debts and from the family records that Patrick was forced by his sons to hand over the remains of the estate to them before his death in 1738.
His eldest son, Patrick, was legally conveyed the income from the lands on 3 January 1729, and on his premature death, in 1732, his brother, Robert, succeeded to become the 23rd Laird.<ref name=":1">Scottish Clan Family Encyclopedia. Collins. pp. 172–173.</ref>
