Robert Hunter (23th Laird)

Robert Hunter (born 1710)<ref name=":0">"FamilySearch".</ref> was a chief of Clan Hunter.<ref>Shaw, M.S (1925). Some Family Papers of the Hunters of Hunterston. Scottish Records Office. p. 74.</ref> Born on 6 September 1710, he inherited the position of the 23th Chief on 27 December 1732 after the death of his elder brother.

He married Janet Atchison,<ref name=":0" /> the daughter of a merchant, Mathew Atchison, of Glasgow.

They had seven children: Thomas and Patrick, the two sons, both died young, and two of their daughters died unmarried.

Throughout life Robert had certainly been of a spare and active habit of body. His visage was long, the forehead being high and narrow, with singularly hollow temples. His hair was of a sandy fair colour, still pretty full, and perfectly free from greyness. In every feeling and habit of mind. Robert is best described by a noted historian as: "A TRUE SCOTTISH BARON OF THE GENUINE AGE OF BARONAGE"<ref>Paterson, James (1866). History of the counties of Ayr and Wigton. p. 357.</ref>

His daughter Eleanora, succeeded her father who died in 1796<ref name=":0" />, aged 85 to become the 24th Chief of Clan Hunter.<ref>Scottish Clan Family Encyclopedia. Collins. pp. 172–173.</ref>
